Sweet Sixteen...

OK, So instead of watching the court shows during the day yesterday, I caught a couple of episodes of My Sweet Sixteen on MTV. Oh my gosh. It's a day later, and I'm still annoyed at these people. Girls turning 16 should not get such lavish parties! One girl's dad gave her a budget of $300,000. Seriously. Then he flew her to Paris to find a dress. It's disturbing. The worst part is, aside from the ridiculous amount of money that is spent, is the fact that these girls virtually don't know the phrase "thank you". One girl got a brand new Audi A4 for her present, and she just pushed her parents out of the way to get in it - no thank you. Another girl got a hummer, and she didn't utter a thank you, but she did end up getting a second car because the hummer was just "too big to handle". Augh. I'm just so annoyed. There are many things we have to be thankful for in this country - we don't know the reality of suffering and day-to-day survival...but how completely decadent and disgusting are these people who blow that much money on a birthday just because they can. And they have morally, emotionally and mentally bankrupt their daughters. Part of me feels sorry for them...they think they have everything, and that they are "somebody" but at some point, their world will seem so empty, and they won't have a clue as to why.

I'm sure that the annoyance factor is higher due to the fact that you are now a mother! You have higher hopes for your son than just monetary. To know and love God should be #1 in our lives and what we teach our children. Sad to say that many Christian girls at 16 act the same way as those you saw on the tv program.
